Besides you’ll find that you’ll get “Ruined Equipment” drops from time to time. These salvage into Essences, which can be combined to make more effective essences. I’ve only seen these to be useful to Talisman Makers.

Weapons and armor of green or better quality can be salvaged to create fragments that improve one stat from the item. For example, a Choppa that provided 10 Strength and 14 Wounds would allow for salvaging either a strength fragment or a wounds fragment. The stat value has no effect on the quality of the fragment– it’s always one tier less than the item you salvage. For example, a green item creates a white fragment, a blue item creates a green fragment. There’s no difference in quality between two equal-color fragments, but higher rarity fragments produce larger stat bonuses on longer-lasting talismans.

Every time salvage is conducted, it has a chance to succeed or fail. If it fails, only essences are recovered. If it succeeds, a fragment is recovered along with some essences. There are 3 levels of essences: whispers, echos, and full essences. 10 whispers can be combined to form one echo, and five echos form one essence. Right click on the stack of whispers and echos in your bag to create the full essences. Only essences can be used in Talisman Making, which uses one essence per talisman. Note that you get multiple essences of varying levels from each salvage, so it’s possible to get 5 whispers and an echo.

What can I salvage?
Anything with a magic stat that is equipable except accessories (and trophys ZzZz).
White and lower items can’t be salvaged. Green and above can (unfortunately there are still some green items which can’t be salvaged)

What is the easiest way to get fragments?
If you don’t have 2 friends sending you their unneeded magic items (and you aren’t being a jerk and needing anything). You WILL have to buy magic items to salvage, especially for tier one. I found a 3s boot that was de’able, from the T1 chaos warcamp renown vendor. Remember when buying items to uncheck the “view usable only” box at the top of the merchant window. Often there are cheaper choices then what your class is able to use.

WTF +2 to stat and 8 hours USELESSS???
Yes they are useless when you first start, they really come into their own once you get to tier 2 and find blues that have good stats AND talisman slots. At that point your average will be +5-7 to a stat for 4-7 days. The time limit is meaningless for you anyways because you are leveling and will replace the gear long before it expires.

Are there permanent talismans?
Yes, purple fragments make permanent talismans. I made a +13 wounds perm one.

The magical salvaging trainer is called the salvaging trainer. Do not get that mixed up with scavenging.

How to get fragments from Salvaging?
At low levels it hard to find items that are Salvageable. Their is a chance some of them items might fail to salvage but not all will me lost you will still get some Essences from losing the item.
